Small Reflections on Juneau
Project description placeholder. This calendar is dedicated to Paul Voelkers and Mary Pat Wyatt, who were gracious hosts for two weeks over the summer of 2015, sharing their love and aloha for Juneau and its community, and Alaska in general.
The areas north and south of Juneau are a study in contrasting landscapes. Gastineau Channel to the south is a singularly breathtaking, narrow valley flanked by huge, steep mountains. Auke Bay, and really the whole corridor north of Juneau, past the airport and out along the Glacier Highway, is a place of islands and approachable shoreline. This becomes clear to a visitor when one sees the landscape from the water, and invariably from the moving viewpoint of a boat — views widen and multiply, the composition of the horizon constantly changes. The eye is continually drawn to the varying sight of islands close by, and mountains in the distance.
